Notice of Limited Liability

SelfMoves USA provides two types of liability coverage for your shipment. The first is catastrophic liability which covers your shipment at $1.00 per pound per piece, subject to a maximum of $15,000 per trailer. Liability is limited for only the conditions listed hereafter: fire, lightning, windstorm or hail, trailer overturn, trailer collision or total truck theft/vandalism. This standard coverage is included with your quote at no additional charge.

Additional catastrophic liability coverage for above listed conditions is available at the following rates:

• For a $75 charge, the coverage would increase to $1.50 per pound per piece up to a maximum of $15,000 per trailer
• For a $100 charge, the coverage would increase to $1.75 per pound per piece up to a maximum of $15,000 per trailer.
• For a $125 charge, the coverage would increase to $2.00 per pound per piece up to a maximum of $15,000 per trailer.

The second coverage is carrier negligence liability which SelfMoves accepts liability at 10 cents per pound per piece for loss or damage caused by carrier negligence. Additional coverage for loss or damage due to carrier negligence is available at the following rates:

SelfMoves USA provides you a commercial method of self moving. You assume the responsibility and control of your move – including all packing and loading of your items. Your items are secured behind the bulkhead wall/divider and SelfMoves USA is only responsible for damage caused by our negligence. We are not responsible for any damage caused by improper packing or loading of shipment.

SelfMoves USA will not accept any claim for currency, accounts, bills, evidence of debt, notes precious stone or jewelry, money, securities or loss or damage caused by acts of war, nuclear explosion, riots, or civil commotion, or water damage (except as noted below.)

Liability will begin after SelfMoves USA or its carrier has been notified the goods have been loaded onto trailer and trailer has been picked up at origin. Liability will cease when the trailer has been tendered for unloading at destination. It is understood that SelfMoves USA and its carrier will assume no liability if the bulkhead is intact at the time of delivery, except in the case of water damage, which is covered at the standard liability coverage of 10 cents per pound per piece.

Additionally, SelfMoves USA will not accept liability for loss or damage caused by the loading of a hazardous nature on board the trailer. Items of hazardous nature include, but are not limited to, inflammables, aerosols, explosives, plants and items subject to federal or state legal quarantines.
